Treasure Thursdays - A Fragile Shepherd

This time I'll introduce you to an example from my porcelain animal collection. For most people, the word "porcelain figurine" brings something cheap and tasteless to mind. However, this is not the case with the figurines I'm collecting. (well, whether or not they are in good taste depends on your subjective opinion ;-).

The figurines I'm mostly interested in are manufactured by renowned Central-European factories, mostly the danish Royal Copenhagen and  Bing & Grøndahl (which merged with Royal Copenhagen in 1987).

I don't blindly collect everything from them, though, like some collectors do. Only the ones that speak to me, that I really want to look at.

Tällä kertaa vuorossa yksi esimerkki posliinieläinkokoelmistani. Useimmille ihmisille tulee sanasta "posliinifiguuri" jotakin halpaa ja mautonta suoraan Tiimarista. Nämä keräilemäni posliinieläimet eivät kuitenkaan kuulu siihen ryhmään (vaikka, no, jokainenhan itse omasta subjektiivisesta näkemyksestään käsin määrittelee sen, mikä edustaa hyvää makua ja mikä ei ;-)

Figuurit joista enimmäkseen olen kiinnostunut ovat tunnettujen Keski-Eurooppalaisten tehtaiden tuotteita, useimmin royal Copenhagenin ja Bing & Grøndahlin (joka kylläkin yhdistyi Royal Copenhagen kanssa 1987).

En tosin sokeasti keräile kaikkea mahdollista näiden valmistamaa kuten jotkut keräilijät. Vain sellaisia yksilöitä jotka puhuttelevat minua, joita todella haluan katsella.

This particular figure is from Bing & Grøndahl. I'm unable to date him since the factory hallmark is different from any of the ones I've seen in Bing & Grøndahl product guides , but I'm quessing he's from around 1920-30-40's? Not a 100% sure though.

I spotted him a couple of years ago at the Antiquities Fair held in Stockholm, Sweden. and was immediately captivated by the dynamic pose.
Usually figurines are sculpted in harmonious manner, it is not often that you see a figurine with an alarmed or even an aggressive posture.

This dog seems rather agitated though.

Tämä nimenomainen figuuri on Bing & Grøndahlin valmistama. En ole onnistunut todentamaan milloin se on valmistettu, koska tehtaan leima on hieman erilainen kuin ne, joita olen nähnyt Bing & Grøndahl tuoteoppaissa, mutta arvelisin sen sijoittuvan johonkin 1920-30-40 luvuille? En kyllä ole 100 % varma.

Huomasin koiran muutama vuosi sitten Tukholman Antikmässänilla ja kiinnitin heti huomiota sen asentoon. Useimmiten figuurit on muovattu melko rauhanomaisiin asentoihin, ei sitä useinkaan tapaa posliinifiguuria, jonka olemus henkisi varuillaanoloa tai jopa aggressiota.

I'm not an expert on interpreting the body language of dogs, but it is clear that this dog is agitated by something. I've always thought that this dog is probably in a guarding stance, barking at an intruder. He is not necessarily on the offensive, but his mood might turn into defensive aggression if provocated enough.

I've thought of him being a mixed-breed - probably even a dog-wolf mix - but a search on the web revealed that he's a German Shepherd - or at least intended to be one.
What I love particularly about this dog is the sculpting, the way the muscles seem tense, and the details on his paws. I love it when animals are depicted as something wild, and not as the polished, romanticised image that is often forced upon them.

I think I can say he is one of my favorites among the things I own. I've yet to come across anything quite like him.

En ole koirien elekielen tulkinnassa mikään ekspertti, mutta uskon sen olevan melko selkeää että koira on "vauhkoontunut" jostakin. Olen aina ajatellut että tämä koira luultavasti vartioimassa ja haukkuu hätyyttääkseen tunkeilijan tai ilmoittaakseen tästä omistajalle. Se ei välttämättä ole vielä hyökkäyslinjalla, mutta jos sitä provosoi vielä enemmän, tilanne saattaa johtaa aggressiiviseen toimintaan (tai ehkä puolustukseen).

Aiemmin pidin koiraa on sekarotuisena - ehkäpä jopa koirasutena - mutta nettitutkailun perusteella paljastui että se on saksanpaimenkoira - tai ainakin tarkoitettu olemaan sellainen.
Pidän siinä erityisesti skulptauksesta, siitä miten lihakset näyttävät jännittyneiltä sekä tassujen muotoilun yksityiskohdista. Pidän siitä, että eläimiä esitetään eläimellisinä, eikä aina romantisoituina kiiltokuvamaisina versioina.

Luulenpa että voin sanoa tämän koiran lukeutuvan yhdeksi lemppareimmista omistamistani asioista. Eteen ei ole tullut tähän mennessä mitään vastaavaa.

Loot from Plastic Pop!

So my Plastic Pop order arrived last thursday. I wasn't expecting them until December, because when preordering, the estimated shipping time was 29. November. But here they are! (And gosh! Why do the deliverymen always ring the doorbell when I'm only half-dressed? :''D )

These are Make It Own-sets from Groove Inc., who produces Pullip-collector dolls. MIO for short. It means that you get an un-painted, un-assembled doll set without any clothing so you can come up with your own idea for a doll. So the possibilities are endless - much like with BJDs.

I got the Taeyang and Isul -sets - that is, the male counterparts of Groove's Pullip and Dal dolls. I was sure that they'd sell quickly and sure enough, they were out of stock in Plastic Pop right on the day these sets arrived. So it was wise to preorder. :3

No niin, Plastic Popin tilaukseni saapui viime torstaina. En itseasiassa odottanut sitä ennen joulukuuta, koska ennakkotilatessa arvioitu saapumisaika oli 29. marraskuuta. Mutta ne ovat täällä! (Ja hitsit! Miksi lähetti-ihmiset osaavat aina soittaa ovikelloa juuri silloin kun olen aamutohinoissa ja puolipukeissa? :''D )

Nämä ovat Make It Own-settejä Groove Inc.:ltä, joka on tunnettu siitä että se valmistaa Pullip-keräilynukkeja. Lyhykäisesti MIO-settien ideana on se, että saat meikittömän ja kokoamattoman nuken joten voit tehdä siitä millaisen itse haluat. Mahdollisuudet ovat mittavat - aivan kuin BJD-nukeilla.

Minä valitsin Taeyang- ja Isul-setit eli miesnuket. Olin ihan varma että Taeyangit ja Isulit myydään ekana ja niin siinä kävikin että Plastic Popin varasto oli myyty loppuun jo heti kun nuket saapuivat sinne. Joten oli viisasta ennakkotilata. :3

This is what it looks like when you open the box. Brings a do-it-yourself-android-kit to mind. That's not a bad mental-image since I love robots. :)
This is the Taeyang-set. Taeyangs and Isuls are my favorites out of Groove's dolls. I love their bodies... (eh that sounded a bit wrong)... meaning that they pose rather nicely and are sturdy if compared to Pullips and Dals which are more fragile.

I also like the Taeyang-face sculpt most out of the dolls in the Pullip-doll line. It looks nice even when blank.

Tältä se sitten näyttää kun boksin availee. Tuo mieleen tee-se-itse-andoidi-setin. Ja se ei ole lainkaan huono mielleyhtymä minusta koska rakastan robotteja. :)
Tämä on Taeyang-setti. Taeyangit ja Isulit ovat Grooven nukeista lemppareimpiani. Tykkään niiden kehoista... eh, siis siinä mielessä että ne posettavat melko hyvin ja ovat kestäviä jos verrataan Pullipeihin ja Daleihin, jotka ovat herkempiä rikkoutumaan.

Tykkään Taeyangin naama-sculptista myös eniten kaikista Pullip-perheen nukeista. Se näyttää kivalta blankonakin.

The eye-mechanism. Looks like this one will be a rather complex puzzle to put together. Funnily they've included eyelashes as well (those hairy little spider-legs you see on the right), pasted them on the side of the box. Somehow I find them immensely amusing.

Silmämekanismi. Vaikuttaa siltä, että tästä tulee melko kinkkinen palapeli koottavaksi. Minua hauskuuttivat nuo mukaan tökätyt silmäripset (nuo karvaiset rimpsut tuossa oikealla), jotka oli kiinnitetty paketin kylkeen.

Makoto, My Isul MAO custom as an example of what could be expected of an Isul doll. Can you believe it, this is my first photo of a Groove doll in ages! I've been more into BJDs for a long time now, mainly because I never really felt statisfied with my Groove-doll photography...
I'm not perfect in photographing BJDs either but personally I find it easier than shooting Groove dolls. And I like posing BJDs better than these, I love the tension that the stringing causes in BJDs.

However, I'm starting to rekindle my interest into these little buggers more and more now.

Olen ollut enemmän kiinni BJD-harrastuksessa lähiaikoina, enimmäkseen siitä syystä että en koskaan ollut oikein tyytyväinen Groove-nukeista ottamiini kuviin...
En ole täydellinen BJD-kuvaamisessakaan, mutta se on silti minulle helpompaa kuin Groove-nukkien kuvaus. Ja tykkään enemmän BJD-nukkien asettelusta, rakastan sitä jännitystä, jonka stringaus aiheuttaa BJDillä ja saa ne ikäänkuin kantamaan omaa painoaan.

Nyt olen kuitenkin sytyttelemässä uudelleen intoani näihin pikku pallopäihin.

I've been aching to get these clothes for some time now, but have resisted them since I was telling myself that I'm done with collecting Groove-doll stuff. I have a thing for knee pants and shorts. So, my dolls have a thing for them accordingly. (or they'd better have, bwahahahahaa!) ^^;;

I think if I could choose, I'd dress in Black Peace Now and Alice and The Pirates -outfits all the time. :''D

I've never put an Obitsu-body on a Pullip doll, but my Dal Tina (or Mackenzie as I've named her) has a broken arm and a floppy body so I decided to try a hybrid body for her. Alas, you should always check before buying, this is a soft bust body and apparently you can only make hybrids with hard busts. *facepalm*

Oh well, I'll just have to change the whole body then. At least she'll have bigger breasts. (Lucky for you Mackenzie, eh?)
I rather like the look of this body, though. I've only ever seen a male Obitsu doll at a friend's place before, and I liked him a lot. At least I'm having fun with poking the body in the stomach, it's so springy, whee! (A-hem! This doll stuff is serious business, mind you!)

En ole koskaan vaihtanut Obitsu-vartaloa Pullip-nukelle, mutta Dal Tinani (tai Mackenzie kuten nimesin sen) käsivarsi on ollut rikki heti paketista ottamisen jälkeen ja sen vartalo on muutenkin melko lerppu ja ärsyttävä, joten päätinpä sitten kokeilla sille hybridivartaloa obitsun kanssa.

Tästä opimme että pitäisi aina tarkistaa asiat ennen kuin ostaa, tämä vartalo on soft bust ja ilmeisesti hybridejä voi tehdä vain hard bust-vartaloiden ja nuken oman stock-vartalon kanssa. *läimäyttää itseään otsaan parhaaseen Jean-Luc Picard tyyliin*

No, täytynee sitten vaan vaihtaa koko vartalo. Ainakin Mackenzie saa sitten isommat tissit. (Onnekasta vai mitä, Mac?)
Tykkään siitä miltä tämä vartalo näyttää. Olen aiemmin nähnyt Obitsu nuken vain kerran kaverin luona ja tykkäsin siitä kovasti. Minulla on myös varsin hauskaa kun huvittelen tökkimällä tämän obitsun vatsaa, se on niin joustava, hiiii! (Öh-höm! Tämä nukkeilu se on sitten vakavaa ja aikuismaista puuhaa!)

Shoes! It's so damn hard to find fitting shoes for Taeyangs and finally Groove has heard our prayers!

I'm hoping these might also fit a certain somedoll that a friend has ordered for me and that I heard has been shipped towards Finland recently... *being very secretive, hee*

I'm still not sure what to make of these blank Taeyang and Isul -sets I bought. I'm considering turning them into my original characters. Another option would be to customize my favorite characters from the DRAMAtical Murder and Togainu no Chi-visual novels.

I'd really like a Clear Taeyang... Hmm.

En ole vielä varma mitä teen noista Taeyang ja Isul-seteistä. Pohdin pitäisikö niistä tehdä omia hahmojani vaiko tuunata parit lempparihahmoni visual noveleista DRAMAtical Murder ja Togainu no Chi.

Tykkäisin kovasti Clear Taeyangista... Hmmm.

 Clear from DRAMAtical Murder. Would he make a nice Taeyang doll? I bet that gas mask would be a pain to make, haha!

My favorite character from Dmmd is Koujaku, but I'm not too keen on painting the massive tattoos he has on my Taeyang. Clear looks like he'd be easier to make, the face is much more neutral so I bet it'd be OK to paint. I also like the fact that Clear is an android, and since the taeyang in pieces already reminds me of an andoid, I think it would be fitting.
And Clear is my second fav! ^3^

Clear DRAMAtical Murderista. Tulisiko hänestä hyvä Taeyang-nukke? Kaasunaamari näyttää siltä että sitä olisi hankala tehdä, haha!

Oikeastaan lempparini tästä pelistä on Koujaku, mutta en aio lähteä maalaamaan Taeeni niitä tatuointeja. Clear olisi helpompi tehdä, kasvomeikit ovat aika neutraalit. Lisäksi pidän siitä ajatuksesta että tämä hahmo on androidi, kun palasina oleva Taeyang tuo jo valmiiksi andoidit mieleeni.
Ja Clear on minun toisiksi lempparein! ^3^

Bubblegum Princess Deer is Back Home!

Did that damn Spica get another new doll?! No, it's good old Nia, my Soom OE Ai. Although if you didn't know any better, I don't think you'd recognize her as the same doll.

Nia went to see Fyrd8th to receive a new face-up in skillful hands. Ever since Fyrd8th did my Remy's (Soom Necy surprise) face-up, Remy has been on the top of my favorite list. I'm spoiling her with attention because I always feel so happy looking at her and admiring how pretty she is now. I had been thinking that Nia needed a new face and when Fyrd8th had some face-up commission slots available, it was settled.

Just taking a quick look at Nia makes it clear that Remy has a rival now. ;-)

Joko se himskutin Spica on taas hankkinut uuden nuken?! No ei sentään, sehän on vain vanha kunnon Nia, Soom OE Ai. Vaikka jos ei tietäisi paremmin niin häntä ei varmaan enää tunnistaisi samaksi.

Nia sai uuden meikin Fyrd8th:n taidokkaissa käsissä. :3
Aina siitä lähtien kun Remy (Soom Necy surprise) sai Fyrd8th:iltä face upin, on Remy ollut suosikkilistani kärjessä. Hemmottelen sitä huomiolla, koska tulen aina iloiseksi katsellessani sitä ja ihailen miten söpö se nyt on. Olin jo jonkin aikaa miettinyt että Nia tarvitsee uuden meikin, ja kun Fyrd8th:illä oli face-up paikkoja vapaana, asia oli nopeasti päätetty.

Vain vilkaisullakin jo havaitsee että Remyllä on nyt kilpailija. ;-)

The new face-up matches the blushing on Nia's hooves nicely~ I don't feel the need to do the hoof-blushing over because it still looks rather nice.

I'm not sure what to do with her horns. It was pointed out at a doll forum that does (i.e. female deer) don't have horns. But maybe magical does do? ;3
Nevertheless this has bothered me a bit.

These are Bambicrony horns and I do like them. But I don't know if they are really "Nia", if you know what I mean. Maybe I should look for the Ai/Afi Winnie Dee-horns, they might fit her new candy-pink style.

En ole yhtään varma mitä tehdä noiden sarvien suhteen. Yhdellä foorumilla nostettiin sarvekkaat nuket esiin ja todettiin että naaraspeuroilla ei ole sarvia. Mutta mitäs jos maagisilla naaraspeuroilla on? ;3
Jokatapauksessa tämä seikka on jäänyt vaivaamaan minua.

Nämä sarvet ovat Bambicronylta ja pidän niistä. Mutta en tiedä ovatko ne yhtään "Nia-maiset", jos tiedätte mitä ajan takaa. Ehkä minun pitäisi etsiä Ai/Afi Winnie Dee -settiin kuuluneita sarvia, ne ehkä sopisivat paremmin Nian uuteen karkkipinkki tyyliin.

A group-order arrived some time ago, bringing new wigs for my Teenies with it. Don't you just hate it when a wig has a nice color and an OK style but the wig cap shows through. Arrgh! This is the case with Shade's (Soom Carbon) new wig, and I'm unsuccessfully trying to patch it with that bow.

It feels like I'm always short on clothes and wigs for Teenies. I love my Teenies to bits but, oh boy, they are a demanding bunch to maintain! ^__~;;

Nia: "Voisin olla myös pupu!"
Hmm... ehkä pitäisi unohtaa koko peurajupakka ja hommata Nialle tassut sen sijaan?

Kimppatilaus saapui ja sen mukana uusia peruukkeja Teenieille. Eikö olekin raivostuttavaa, kun peruukissa on kiva väri, se on OK mallinen, mutta sitten. Liian harva! Peruukin pohja näkyy ikävästi läpi. Arrgh! Juuri näin on nyt päässyt käymään Shaden (Soom Carbon) uuden peruukin kanssa, ja yritän huonolla menestyksellä peitellä sitä tuolla rusetilla.

Tuntuu siltä että minulla on aina liian vähän vaatteita ja peruukkeja Teenieille. Rakastan Teenieitäni ihan hulluna, mutta voi pojat että ne osaavat olla vaativaista sakkia ylläpidettäväksi! ^__~;;

Shade himself. He started out as a girl but it's getting clearer day-by-day that he is, in fac,t a boy. When I got Carbon, I wasn't too thrilled about the baby-monster hands. I was sure I'd never use them on Shade. But - the dolly hobby is full of surprises! When he arrived, I fell in love with the baby monster hands and I haven't changed them to the ordinary Teenie hands even once!

Why is it that with dolls, you seem to do the exact opposite that you plan on doing? Why?!

Shade itse. Luulin että Shade on tyttö, mutta nyt alkaa olla päivä päivältä selvempää että hän onkin poika. Kun hankin Soom Carbonin, en ollut järin innoissani noista baby monster-käsistä. Olin varma että en koskaan käyttäisi niitä Shadella. Mutta - nukkeharrastus on yllätyksiä tulvillaan! Kun Shade saapui, ihastuin ikihyviksi baby monster-käsiin enkä ole kertaakaan vaihtanyt tavallisia Teenie-käsiä sille.

Mistä se johtuu, että nukkien kanssa tuntuu kaikki suunnitelmat menevät ihan päälaelleen? Miksi?!

A couple of pics of Nia's old face-up, this is what she looked like when she came to me. The old face-up was really cute as well, I especially liked the way the lips were painted. But I was having trouble bonding with Nia. This was the face-up that her former owner had commissioned for her, it was a constant reminder of her former character.
Also, the doll was starting to pack some years (Soom Ai/Afi was the December 2009 Monthly Doll) and the old face-up was beginning to have some wear-and-tear already.

With the default face-ups from the doll companies I don't feel so much burden from the doll's past "life", so that's why I'm fine with my Bygg having his default face-up, even though he's also bought second hand.

Pari kuvaa muistoksi siitä millainen Nian face-up oli tänne tullessaan. Tämäkin meikki on varsin suloinen, etenkin huulet. Mutta minulla oli ongelmia bondata tämän nuken kanssa. Jotenkin kaipasin uutta ilmettä nukelle. Etenkin kun tämä oli edellisen omistajan toiveiden mukainen face-up ja siten siitä tuli jatkuvasti nuken aiempi hahmo mieleen. Nukella on myös jo hiukan ikää (Soom Ai oli joulukuun 2009 julkaisu) ja meikki alkoi siten olla vähän kulunut.

Firmojen default-face upeissa ei ole niin paljon "edellisen hahmon painolastia" kuin erikseen teetetyissä face-upeissa, koska niitä tehdään niin monelle nukelle samanlaisena. Siksi esim. Byggini voi rauhassa pitää default face-upinsa.

Nian teema on vaaleanpunainen purukumi ja tuumin että nämä valopallot muistuttivat hieman jättimäisiä purkkapalloja. ;-)

Ajattelin aloittaa valo-teemaisen kuvasarjan nukkekuvauksessa jossa yritän tutkia valoa ja miten voisin kuvata sitä eri tavoin nukke- ja lelukuvissa. (Ei siis aina sitä itselleni tavanomaista lamppu-posottamaan-suoraan-päin-nuken-naamaa... X''D).

Haven't seen this fellow in a while, eh?
Well, I haven't forgotten my larger dolls eventhough I'm so smitten with Teenies at the moment.

I'm going to change Bram's default acrylic eyes to glass ones soon. Before that I wanted to take some photos of him with the old eyes one more time. They have a nice, warm expression, but still come out rather flat in most photos so it's fun to see if the new eyes give some new spark(le) to this gentleman.

The pirate mini-hat I bought for myself to wear with a pirate-inspired outfit, but it suits Bram so well, I might style him to look more pirate-y and take a whole set of photos with props and all in a pirate-theme. :3

While taking the pics I realized I haven't taken any photos of Bram with my newer camera before. It was about time too!
I should make a list of things "to-photograph-with-my-new-camera" and take it from there.

I'm still nowhere near where the best doll- and toy-photographers are, but I think my photography is slowly getting better and with every shoot I seem to learn new things. It's fun to see your own development, even if it is slow. :3

No, en suinkaan ole unohtanut isompia nukkejanikaan vaikka olenkin Teenieihin lääpälläni.

Vaihdan pian Bramin default akryylisilmät hienompiin lasisiin, mutta sitä ennen halusin ottaa kuvia vielä kerran vanhojen silmien kanssa. Niissä on lämmin, ystävällinen katse, mutta silti ne kuvissa jotenkin näyttävät usein hiemat elottomilta ja latteilta joten on hauska nähdä antavatko uudet silmät hieman kipinää sedän ilmeeseen.

Piraatti-minihatun ostin itselleni pidettäväksi merirosvo-inspiroituneen asun kanssa, mutta se sopii Bramille niin hyvin että saatan ottaa kokonaisen piraattikuvasetin tällä teemalla proppeineen päivineen. :3

Kuvia ottaessani tajusin että en olekaan ottanut Bramista kuvia tällä uudemmalla kamerallani aikaisemmin. Oli jo aikakin!
Pitäisi varmaan tehdä lista mitä kaikkea en ole kuvannut uudella kameralla ja ottaa asiakseen kuvata ne sillä. x3

En ole vielä lähelläkään parhautta nukke- tai lelukuvauksessa, mutta minusta tuntuu että valokuvaamiseni paranee hitaasti ja joka shootin yhteydessä oppii uutta. On hauska nähdä oma kehitystään kuvaamisessa, vaikka se olisikin hidasta. :3

Another one of my favorite tan dolls, Radu~ He's going to return to his original style soon so I wanted to take a few pics of him as well in this get-up.

I love photographing tan dolls. Usually when photographing white dolls I get really frustrated because the photos get so easily over-exposed. (having a déjà-vu moment here... I may have ranted about this before.)
Tan resin usually comes out prettily in photos, so I'm often very pleased after a photosession, as opposed to the feeling after shooting (heh) white dolls.

Toinen suosikki-tanneista nukeistani, Radu~ Radu palaa pian omaan tyyliinsä, joten halusin ottaa vielä pari kuvaa siitä tässä asussa.

Rakastan tannien nukkien kuvaamista. Useimmiten valkoiset nuket ylivalottuvat (heh,  tulipas déjà-vu-fiilikset, saatan olla rantannut tästä aiemminkin) kuvissa niin helposti että menetän malttini. Tanni hartsi puolestaan näyttää kuvissa helpommin nätiltä, joten olen kuvaussession jälkeen yleensä tyytyväinen, toisin kuin valkoisten nukkien kuvaamisen jälkeen.

When I decided to buy a Luts Bory, right from the start I wanted him to cosplay Ciel sometimes.

I like controversial and ambiguous characters and maybe that's why I like Kuroshitsuji's Ciel Phantomhive so much. I like it that you never know whose side you should be on in that manga. :-)

Kun päätin hankkia Lutsin Boryn, halusin jo alusta asti ennenkuin nukke oli edes kotona, kokeilla joskus hieman Ciel tyylisiä vaatteita sille.
Pidän hahmoista, jotka ovat ambivalentteja, siksi ehkä pidän myös Kuroshitsujin Ciel Phantomhivesta niin paljon. Pidän siitä että siinä mangassa ei koskaan tiedä kenen puolella pitäisi olla. :-)

As a bonus-pic I've included a behind-the-scenes-photo of Bram.
We have a fitted carpet and an original 1970's scenery wallpaper at my parents' house. These were the background in my childhood when playing with my My Little Ponies and Playmobils. Little did I know then that someday I'd "play" there with these kind of big dolls. :3

Nämä toimivat lapsena kulisseina My Little Pony- ja Playmobil-leikeille, ruohona ja maisemana. Enpä osannut silloin kuvitella että joskus "leikkisin" siellä tällaisilla setänukeilla. x3

Treasure Thursdays - Of Fennecs and Bearded Gentlemen...

Wüsti here is a fennec - oder eine Wüstenfuchs wie man es auf Deutsch nennt. Foxes are among my favorite animals and as you might have noticed at some point, I collect all kinds of foxy things. I try to find something fox-related as a souvenir everytime I travel somewhere (well, maybe not from Sweden, because I go there so often I'd be in trouble if I'd get fox stuff from every trip. ^^;; ).

It just so happened that Wüsti was waiting for me at a little antiquities shop in Ratzeburg where we stopped on our day trip outside Hamburg a couple weeks ago. He was stacked on a shelf full of old toys, only his adorable little face was visible and I found something very appealing in those honey-brown glass-eyes.

I've collected Steiff animals for sometime now and I recognized the distinctive silver button on his left ear and the typical expression that can only belong to a Steiff animal. At first glance I thought he was a dog of some sort but when I asked the shopkeeper if I could have a closer look, his fox tail came into view.

It was settled then and there that Wüsti would be coming home with me. :-) A later research around the web revealed that he's from the 1960's, and is a fennec by the production name "Xorry". He's in a pretty good condition, no missing fur, clearly he has been kept safe from a too harsh manner of playing. Although the fact that his tags are missing reduce his collectible value somewhat. That doesn't bother me though, I love him and he's my one-of-a-kind Wüsti.

...at some point he was going to be called Ratz after Ratzeburg, but everytime I think of him, my mind always brings up the name Wüsti. So he's Wüsti.

Wüsti tässä on aavikkokettu eli fennekki. Tai Wüstenfuchs kuten niitä saksaksi sanotaan. Ketut ovat lempparieläimiäni kuten kaikki varmaan tulevat huomaamaan jossain vaiheessa, koska keräilen kaikkea kettuaiheista. Yritän aina matkoilta löytää jotakin ketukasta matkamuistoksi. (No ei ehkä Ruotsista aina kun siellä tulee käytyä niin usein. Olisin pulassa kaikkien niiden kettuisten asioiden kanssa. ^^;; )

Tapahtuipa sillä lailla että Wüsti napotti odottamassa minua pienessä antiikkikaupassa Ratzeburgissa, missä kävimme päiväretkellä samaisella Hampurin matkalla josta palasin vähän aikaa sitten. Siellä se oli tungettuna hyllylle muiden vanhojen lelujen joukkoon, vain suloinen pikku naama oli näkyvillä ja jotenkin ne hunajanruskeat lasisilmät vetosivat minuun sieltä kaapin perältä. Tunnistin Steiffin pehmolelutehtaan eläimille tyypillisen pienen hopeisen napin vasemmassa korvassa, sekä Steiff-omaisen ilmeen eläimen kasvoilla.

Ensivilkaisulta luulin että kyseessä olisi jonkinsortin koira, mutta kun pyysin kaupan pitäjältä että saisin tarkastella otusta lähempää, Wüstin ketunhäntä tuli näkyville. Siitä hetkestä lähtien oli ihan päivänselvää että Wüsti lähtee minun kanssa kotiin. :-) Kyllä kettu kettufanin tunnistaa ja järkkäsi anovalla katseellaan itselleen kodin. Ovelaa..

Myöhempi tutkimusmatkailu netissä paljasti että Wüsti on 1960-luvulta ja on kuin onkin aavikkokettu tuotantonimeltään "Xorry". Se on hyvässä kunnossa, turkissa ei ole kulumaa ja sitä on selkeästi säästelty liian rajulta leikkimiseltä. Se, että alkuperäiset tuotelaput puuttuvat, laskee hieman keräilyarvoa, mutta se ei minua haittaa, koska Wüsti on rakas ja ainutlaatuinen minun Wüstini.

...jossain vaiheessa sille piti tosin tulla nimeksi Ratz Ratzeburgin mukaan, mutta aina kun ajattelen sitä mieleen nousee nimi Wüsti joten Wüsti se sitten on.

From the same antiquities shop I found this old photograph - I'm quessing it's from the early 20th century. I might have mentioned in Souvenirs from Liminka-post that I collect old photographs especially of bearded gentlemen.

He's bearded, stylish and has fun at the beach with birds. This photo is one of my favorite things ever. ^__^
There's something utterly poetic about this picture. The way the waves break in the background, how the wind has caught hem of the man's coat, the way the birds almost look like they stand still in mid-air. The slight smile that curves his lips.

Somehow, whoever he was, I hope he had a good life.

Samasta antiikkikaupasta löytyi myös tämä vanha valokuva jonka arvelen olevan 1900-luvun alusta. Saatoin mainita siitä matkamuistoja Limingasta-postauksessani että keräilen vanhoja valokuvia eritoten parrakkaista sedistä.

Hän on parrakas, tyylikäs ja huvittelee rannalla lintujen kanssa. Tämä kuva on yksi suosikeimmistani asioista ikinä. ^__^
Tässä kuvassa on jotain hyvin runollista. Tapa jolla aallot rikkoutuvat taustalla, miten tuuli on tarttunut miehen takin helmaan, se miten linnut näyttävät kuin leijuvat paikallaan ilmassa. Pieni hymynkare miehen huulilla.

Kuka setä olikaan, toivottavasti hänellä oli hyvä elämä.

Ghastly Halloween! - Scarily late for the party!

I love Halloween! Too bad I'm always too busy partying to make a timely post with Halloween themed pics... ^^;;

This year I decided beforehand that Teenie Gems should star in Halloween pics. Since my Soom Necy Remy has been the center of my attention ever since she returned from the face-up, I decided now it was my Feny, Feni's turn.

Rakastan Halloweenia! Harmi että olen sen aikaan usein liian kiireinen juhlien kanssa ehtiäkseni postata Halloween-teemaisia kuvia ajoissa... ^^;;

Tänä vuonna päätin jo valmiiksi että Halloween-kuvissa tulisivat esiintymään Teenie Gemit. Koska Soom Necyni Remy on ollut huomioni keskipisteenä aina siitä lähtien kun se saapui face-upista, päätin että nyt oli Fenyni Fenin vuoro.

Our Halloween party consisted of eating treats like a pumpkin cake, going to see the ruins of medieval Turku and scary but intriquing installations by the young artist of the year 2013 Jarno Vesala in the Aboa Vetus Ars Nova -museum, clubbing and playing games like Blitz (which left me with scars on my hands. A game fitting for Halloween...) and Rory's Story Cubes.

The stories inspired by the story cubes; "The Lion Who Didn't Have Any Homing Instinct Whatsoever." and "The Red Light District Teepee" will amuse me whenever I remember them. ;-)

Halloween bileissä syötiin herkkuja kuten kurpitsakakkua, mentiin katsomaan Turun keskiaikaista kaupunkia sekä vuoden 2013 nuoren taiteilijan Jarno Vesalan säikyttäviä mutta kiehtovia  installaatioita Aboa Vetus ja Ars Nova museossa, käväistiin pikaisesti hohtogolfissa ja baarikierroksella.
Illalla vielä pelattiin pelejä kuten Blitz (minulla on vieläkin kädet verinaarmuilla tästä. Varsinainen Halloween-matsi...) ja Rory's Story Cubes-tarinakuutioiden kera tarinankerrontaa.

Tarinakuutioiden avulla esiin loihditut, nohtumattomat tarinat "Eläintarhan suuntavaistoton leijona" ja "Punaisten lyhtyjen tiipii" jäävät ikuisiksi ajoiksi huvittamaan aina kun ne muistuvat mieleen. ;-)

Feni: *sniff sniff* "Something smells delicious... and I think it's not those chocolate eyeballs I got trick-or-treating..."
