Majakka-seikkailu Osa2 - The Bengtskär Lighthouse Adventure Part2

Arion chillailee kalliolla Bengtskärin majakan siintäessä taustalla.

Arion hangs out marvelling the view to the sea with the picturesque Bengtskär lighthouse at the background.

....aand the lighthouse-adventure continues~ ;-D Just like with the lamp at the top of the lighthouse, I had to use imagination how to get the dolls and the lighthouse *itself* in the same picture...

Here I'm down in the old bunker that was used in the war. I placed Arion at the edge on one of the holes in the bunker's ceiling. That way I managed to get both the doll and the lighthouse in the picture.

Tässä menin alas vanhaan, sota-aikana käytettyyn bunkkeriin. Laitoin Arionin bunkkerin katossa olleen aukon reunalle, jolloin sain sekä nuken että majakan näkymään kuvissa.

I think that the slightly gothic-style staircase to the top of the lighthouse is the perfect background for Alois (Isul Johan).

Minusta hiukan goottihenkinen majakan porraskäytävä on täydellinen tausta Aloisille~

A view down to the spiralling staircase. Brings the movie Vertigo to mind, huh? ;3 This time no spirits or ghosties interrupted my pic-taking spree.

Näkymä spiraalimaisesti kiertyvään portaikkoon. Tulee ihan elokuva Vertigo - Punainen kyynel mieleen, eikö vain? ;3 Tällä kertaa henget tai kumpparit eivät tulleet häiritsemään kuvaussähläystäni.

..just because I didn't seem to get enough of photographing the lighthouse... ^^;;

...ihan vaan koska en saanut tarpeeksi majakan kuvaamisesta... ^^;;

...or enough of photographing dolls either... hehe...

...tai nukkien kuvaamisesta tarpeekseni... hehhee...

...it seems that the dolls got fed up at this point, though. Hey Boys, get a grip and pose for meeee!

...Now that's better. Haha, this looks like it could be named "Escape from the Lighthouse!!" X''D Reminds me of some cover from an adventure book for children.

...Parempi! X''D Tulee ihan mieleen joku lapsille suunnatun seikkailukirjan kansi.

There used to be a huge foghorn at the lighthouse, I liked the visual elements in the drawings for it. Poor people that lived on the island back then, though. The sound of the foghorn could be heard to the ships far away from Bengtskär... imagine what the noise was like on the island itself when the foghorn was sounded. Ugh.

And now... you have entered the Praised-be-random-madness-section of this post! >:3 This is the bookself from the common room of where we stayed the night at the lighthouse. And... it had some of the most... um... shall we say; unexpectedly quirky stuff.

First, we have the guestbooks. Whenever I visit some place I always check the guestbooks for some interesting discoveries... (so beware what you write in them, heheh) It says in Finnish; "Monday 5th of June 1995. What a F*cking day." Makes one wonder what happened there...

Ensin; vieraskirjat! Osaatte varmaan lukea mitä tuossa lukee, neee? ;3 Mitäköhän tuolloin tapahtui?

...then a book about.... Toilets?? ~.~ What? Oh well, let's enjoy the pic and not bother ourselves with "Why would anyone want to read a book about toilets when visiting a lighthouse??? Or anywhere???"
It says; "This chicken is not afraid of boogeymen for sure!" (for information; there is a belief in Finnish folklore that every building has its own keeper - or spirit. And the toilet is no exception. This text refers to the fact that sometimes children are jokingly told stories about spirits or boogeymen that habit toilets - especially outhouses that are still common in the countryside and summer cottages.)

My goal is to collect funny and unexpected stuff that I find hilarious or worthy of a WTF?-moment so... there you have it.

...sitten vuorossa... kirja vessoista? ~.~ Miksi ihmeessä majakassa on kirja jossa kerrotaan vessoista ja ulkohuusseista...?
No, tämä kuva oli aika hupsu joten - blogiin!

An excerption from the afore-mentioned book. Someone's memoires of the stories they were told about these outhouse-dwelling spirits;

----"When I was a kid, I was told that in our outhouse there lived a tonttu (a gnome-like house-spirit of Finnish folklore). It didn't like if someone took a crap on the paths where people used to walk or if the toilet-papers were disarranged.... If you kept everything clean and put the lid on the toilet so that the tonttu's gout didn't worsen from the draft of air, tonttu was an exceptionally good fellow.

He especially treated kids kindly if they behaved. Sometimes he even left candy on the lid of the toilet seat." (Spicas note; DX!!! YUCK!!!)

"...They even told us about a boogeyman, but he lived happily in the heap of crap and didn't even rise out of there to breathe. (Spica's notes: Yeah... you read right. Poor thing. Folklore can be cruel for boogeymen I tell ya.)
...but if you poor child happened to take a peek in the toilet and fell down to the depths. Then the boogeyman would have made you his meal. The stepfather of our neighbor's son used to scare the lanky boy with stories of a toilet-dwelling boogeyman that ate children. Even at the age of ten, the neigbor's son wanted me to come with him if he needed to go at night."

..Ote kirjasta. Jonkun muistoja vessatontuista. Lue omalla vastuulla, haha. ;-D

"Where should I put a sticky lump?"

"Should I hide it below the table board?"

"The best solution is to throw it to the garbage wrapped in a tissue."

...you get ten points if you guessed that the talk was about bubblegum here... ^^;; Taken from a 1980's Etiquette book, this describes how you should get rid of bubblegum correctly. Yupp.. apparently that was a big problem in the 80's I'm sure.

..It manages to escape me, who would be so stupid to need directions on disposing of your bubblegum. Oh, I guess people like that excist. Scary.

No, kai sellaisiakin ihmisiä on. Pelottavaa.

Funny...or just plain stupid? Hassua... vai vain tyhmää?

The same book was a source of unending hilarity-

Sama kirja oli tosi hyvä lähde loppumattomalle hassuttelulle-

Not like this.
Not Like this!
NOT LIKE THIS!!!
Dum-Dum-Duuuuuum---!! X''D

Didn't expect to see stuff like this in a doll-collecting blog, huh? ;-D

Etpäs odottanut näkeväsi tällaista nukkeblogissa, eikö niin?! ;-D

Seikkailu Bengtskärin majakkasaarella! Osa1 (...lisäksi random nukkekuvausta!)- Adventure at the Bengtskär lighthouse! Part1 (...including doll-photography-madness!)

For some miraculous reason, I always feel that if a post won't start with a picture, it's much less appealing.. ! XD
Like I promised in the last post, this post will be all about photospam from our trip to the Bengtskär island and the impressive lighthouse there~ In this post I've included both travel- and landscape-pics from the trip as well as doll piccies too.

For those of you who just went "Huh?! Ben... what the?!", check the Bengtskär homepage to be enlightened! (It's a lighthouse pun, get it? mwahaha!)
In a nutshell, standing at the height of 52 meters from the sealevel, Bengtskär lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in whole of Scandinavia. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the lighthouse now serves as a popular tourist attraction.

We're off to the sea~!
During the boat-ride to the island you get to marvel at the Finnish archipelago at its finest. And if the weather happens to be windy, be prepared for sea-sickness...(keep the paper bags at hand and ready):3

Venematkalla voit pällistellä  suomalaista saaristomaisemaa parhaimmillaan. Jos matkalla sattuu tuulemaan, varaudu meripahoinvointiin (eli pidä paperipussit valmiina~)
:3

Häämöttävä majakka - The Looming Lighthouse~ <3

Here and there were a lot of carvings, made by former residents and visitors. This particular carving was made by the son of the lighthouse keeper when he left from the island to sail the seas, in hopes that some time he would be able to return.
Later, when it was time for his younger brother to leave the island, he too made a similar carving as his older brother before him.

Arion and Alois were my traveling-companions and photomodels this time. :-)

Arion ja Alois olivat matkakumppaneinani ja valokuvamalleinani tällä reissulla.

Alois inspects the view from one of our rooms where we stayed the night. I was pretty surprised that the island was so crowded with visitors.. It was hard to get good pictures without any (undesired X'D ) extra people in them. Luckily, they left for the night and we got to have the island almost to ourselves... (with the exception of the lighthouse-staff of course. ;-) ) ..and in my case, I got to photograph my dolls in peace. :-)

He kuitenkin lähtivät illaksi ja saimme me yövieraat saimme tutkailla majakkaa ja saarta rauhassa.

We climbed all the 252 steps up to the lighthouse tower. Phew! I have a slight fear of heights, but I won't let that stop me from climbing to lighthouse towers! Especially if it's rewarded with fancy backgrounds for photographs! (? are they nice and fance enough for you? It's up to you viewers to decide!)

It was very hard to get the huge lamp of the lighthouse in the same picture with these small dolls. :''D So I had to get creative. Arion here is taking a peek to the staircase lying down on his stomach at the lighthouse tower floor, while I'm snapping the photo standing down on the stairs...

A close-up of Alois and the lighthouse lamp. Up close this makes for a pretty futuristic backdrop, wouldn't you say?

I wanted to take a photo of that sign (a "signature" of sorts from the manufacturer of the lamp) because of its steampunkyness. :3 Arion strikes a pose and Alois tries to photobomb by messing up Arion's already messy hair. Like they aren't messy enough from strolling by the windy beach... X-D

While taking this set of pictures of Alois balancing on the rail, I was all by myself at the lighthouse tower. I had waited for all of the other guests to go back downstairs and I was utterly immersed in posing the dolls and taking pictures and hadn't paid attention to my surroundings at all.
It was completely silent until suddenly I heard the soft  sound of footsteps ascending from the lighthouse tower staircase.
They seemed to get closer and closer, until fading away, out of my hearing. It felt strange and suddenly I was *very* aware that I was alone in the tower, in a building that was old and had a lot of history behind it...

Later I read in a book that on the island, there lives a nature-spirit called Pookineito, a small female spirit with long, coal-black hair, dressed all in red. She used to warn the fishermen of an impending storm, and wave at them from the banks of the Bengtskär island by lifting a lantern up-and-down, when it was time to go home from the seas. Only a fool would not heed Pookineito's advice, because the storm was sure to break soon.
She hasn't shown herself much after the lighthouse was built, but there are people who have heard her steps, as she walks along the lighthouse tower...

So... who knows? Maybe it was Pookineito who I heard coming up the stairs...? She might have been curious about what I was doing, photographing my dolls up there... Must have been pretty mind-boggling for an ancient nature-spirit to see what modern people are up to nowadays with these funny-looking little toys. Well.. it's pretty mind-boggling for some *people* too, let alone ghosts and spirits of nature...!! ;-D

Pookineito as pictured in the label of Bengtskär Coffee
---

Bonus-pic-time!! Boonuskuvahetki-!!

I just had to snap a photo of myself descending the ladder to the top of the tower~! It was pretty scary and I had to take care that the dolls didn't fall from my crasp. Yes, those are my feet you're looking at. XD
I think I was quite clever to put Alois and Arion in a wine-bottle carry bag that usually fits two bottles. It has two separate pockets that fit Taeyangs and especially Isuls like they are made for these dolls! It's very easy and fast to flip the doll out of its pocket, too, once you decide that it's a good photo-opportunity moment!

.... *and* the bag is Finnish design : Finlayson! ^3^

...to be continued in Part Two of this post, coming soon~

...jatkoa seuraa Osassa Kaksi tätä postausta, tulossa pian~

Boksikuvia ja mietteitä Isul Johanista - Box-pictures of Isul Johan

Siellä se on! Niin koskemattomana ja siistinä. Tohtiiko sitä sieltä pois ottaakaan...? - There he is! So pristine, do I even dare to take him out of his box--? DX
Materiaalia onkin kerääntynyt; Saksan matka, vierailu nukkeja harrastavan ystäväni luona, Animecon, uusia figuureja, Nitro+Chiralin uusimman Visual Novelin, DRAMAtical Murder:in hehkuttaminen...

At long last I'm updating my neglected blog! ^3^ But I just can't help it, I've been so busy this summer that I seem to have no free moment for this blog project of mine, although I find it highly enjoyable to write about my interests and hobbies, let alone share some piccies.

Oh well, this is a new start so I'll try to update at a more regular basis from now on. And boy do I have loads of things to write about; my trip to Germany (and I took my DikaDoll Autumn BJD with me so it was his first trip abroad too!), a visit to my friend who is also a doll-figure-and-anime hobbyist, one of the biggest events in Finnish anime-fandom, Animecon, new anime figures, fangirling about Nitro+Chiral's newest visual novel, DRAMAtical Murder...

So lots of catching up to do!
But I'll just go ahead and start from the newest stuff: an over-night trip to the Bengtskär lighthouse. I wanted to take some dolls along for the trip because I knew that I could get some great photos there! I thought it would be fitting to photograph Alois, my Isul Johan against the background of the lighthouse tower with slightly gothic-looking atmosphere.

...Buuuut: Collector's Problem!! Although Alois has bee in my possession since... hm... last January? I still haven't taken him out of his box... ^^;;
Isul Johan is *remarkably* neat-looking in his box, so I have postponed freeing him so that I could admire the beautifl packaging a little longer... Apart from that, the Collector in me always dies a little inside whenever I take a doll or a figure out of its box, because they are more valuable and more "original" if they have Never Been Out of the Box. This is the reason I *still* have some of my dolls and figures (that I have owned for ages!) in their boxes... I just can't bring myself to "out" them all.

I've been trying and trying to get rid of this little box-obsession of mine, but it takes time to get used to. It IS nice when the doll or the figure is freed from the contains of its box, that's when the real fun starts when you can "play" with it, and admire its fine details and painting closer. And in the case of articulated dolls and figures you get to try out different poses~ ^3^/

So, what do You think? Do you find it difficult to take your collectables out of their packages or do you waste no time in outing your precious ones from the confines of their cardboard-and-plastic cases?
What do you think about collectors who keep most - or some - of their dolls and figures in their original boxes? I'd like o hea your opinions about this matter so please share~! ;3

Ehkä yksi hienoimmista Pullip-perheen nukkie boksi-"asetteluista", joita olen nähnyt... <3

Boonus - otin Aloisn ulos boksistaan autossa matkalla kohti Kasnäsiä, josta vene Bengtskäriin lähti. Oli kuriositeettina pakko ottaa kuva siitä, miten tärisevässä autossa nukke polvilla yitin poistaa teippejä käsistä. :D
