Nekomimi Mode!

Finally a somewhat dramatic Soom Cheshire cat split-order at our local BJD-forums has been brought to an end, and Ritsuka  has his resin cat ears and -tail at last! <3

I just can't stand how cute Ricchan looks with the ears! >3< And the paws that were optional for Dikadoll AAAAA go so well with this look too~
Soom cream white is a bit more whitey white than Dikadoll's normal white, but since the ears and tail will be blushed to match Ritsuka's hair color it won't matter that much.

I'm having the same problems with the tail as with the fox tail on Soom Feny - the magnet is too weak to hold such a heavy resin part in place... it keeps falling off (heh, those of you who are familiar with the meaning of shedding the tail and ears in Loveless, no nasty thoughts!).

Aa, en kestä miten söpöltä Ricchan näyttää noissa korvissaan! >3< Ja käpälätkin, jotka olivat valinnaisosina Dikadoll AAAAA:lle sopivat tähän lookkiin tosi hyvin~
Soomin cream white on hitusen valkoisempi kuin Dikadollin normal white resiiniväri, mutta koska korvat ja häntä blushataan myöhemmin Ritsukan hiusten värisiksi niin eipä sitä sitten enää huomaa.

Hännän kanssa tosin on sama ongelma kuin Soom Fenyn ketunhännälläkin - magneetti on liian heikko pitämään niin painavaa hartsipötkylää paikallaan... se putoilee koko ajan (heh, te jotka tiedätte mitä hännän ja korvien pudottaminen tarkoittaa Lovelessin maailmassa niin eipäs mietitä tuhmia!).

As to where Ritsuka's cat ear hairband went; not far. Now every doll I own gets to wear it on their turn. Well, that is to say; the ones that it fits.

I give you; nekomimi Radu. Hmm. Two moe-points in one; cat-eared robot. Not bad at all! x3 This reminds me, I was reading the newest issue of a Finnish dog-magazine that is ever so cleverly named as "Dogs" where a certain article caught my eye.
There was a particular point in an article that caught my eye about pets and the future evolution of machines. Some scientist was of the opinion that we should be careful if and when an artificial intelligence surpasses that of the human I.Q. Painting orwellian dystopies on the wall, the scientist claimed that animals might take the side of the machines if worse comes to worst for us humans. (and I think we're talking about animals enhanced with microtechnology here, not just your ordinary cattle ;-)

Even though the idea sounds rather far off, I find it interesting. I've never thought about what would happen to the animals if a supreme artificial intelligence were to take the ruling position from us humans. Cybernetically enhanced animals and super-intelligent machines collaborating to bring us humans down? I'm not sure if that's ever been done in science fiction before. (Please enlighten me if you know better!)

---I always seem to amaze myself with these trains of thought during the late hours. One minute you're photographing a cat eared doll, next you're philosophizing about animals and robots taking over the world...? Maybe it's time to call it a night! x'D

Jos ihmettelitte minne Ritsukan kissankorvapanta meni niin ei kovin kauas. Nyt jokainen nukke jonka päähän saan sen mahtumaan saa omalla vuorollaan söpöillä korvakkaana.

Niinpä esittelen teille ensimmäisenä; nekomimi Radu! Hmm. Kaksi moe-pistettä yhdellä iskulla; kissankorvainen robotti. Ei paha! x3 Tämä muistuttaakin minua artikkelista tulevaisuuden lemmikeistä, jota luin uusimmasta Koirat-lehdestä. Artikkelin loppupuolella eräs tutkija esitteli näkemyksiään siitä, että ihmisten tulisi olla varovaisia jos ja kun keinoäly ohittaa ihmisten älykkyystason. Orwellilaisia dystopioita seinälle maalaten tämä tutkija arveli että (esim. mikroprosessoreilla parannellut, nykyistä älykkäämmät, tietoiset) eläimet saattavat mennä älykkäiden koneiden puolelle jos ihmiskunta jää alakynteen.

Vaikka ajatus kuulostaa ensin ehkäpä hiukan kaukaa haetulta, se on silti kiehtova. Enpä ole koskaan tullut ajatelleeksi mitä eläimille tapahtuu jos superälykäs kone kaappaa vallan meiltä ihmisiltä. Kyberneettisesti muunnellut eläimet ja yliälykkäät koneet yhteistyössä kaatamassa ihmiskuntaa? En tiedä onko tätä ideaa vielä käsitelty science fictionissa. (Ja minua saa valaista jos tiedätte paremmin~)

---Niin ja; aina kun sitä pysähtyy ajattelemaan niin huvittuu omista yöllisistä pohdiskeluistaan. Yhtenä hetkenä kuvaat kissankorvaista nukkea ja toisena filosofoit eläimistä ja roboteista suunnittelemassa maailmanvalloitusta...? Ehkäpä on aika mennä nukkumaan! x'D

Advent Sunday Robotics - Spicasmago Advent Calendar 01

Radu: Spica is at the Christmas meeting for the members of the local resin doll forum, so I was left in charge of the first Advent Calendar post this year!

Did you know that this is the first year that Finland has taken part in the European Robotics week? Its purpose is to increase the knowledge in robotics and to highlight the importance of robots. We robots are a hearty breed, so please be kind to us!
This day is the last day of the Robotics week, so let's celebrate it as well as the Advent Sunday!

...I don't know why you people seem to associate robots with Christmas though, since you make Christmas decorations like this, but I guess there is a connection...

Radu: Spica on Hartsilapset-foorumin pikkujouluissa, joten minut jätettiin vastuuseen ensimmäisestä joulukalenteriluukusta tänä vuonna.

Tiesittekö, että tänä vuonna Suomi osallistuu ensimmäistä kertaa Eurooppalaiseen Robottiviikkoon? Robottiviikon tavoitteena on lisätä ihmisten tietoa robotiikasta sekä korostaa sen merkitystä. Me robotit olemme mukavaa porukkaa, joten olkaa meille ystävällisiä!
Tänään on Robottiviikon viimeinen päivä, joten juhlitaan sitä samalla kun juhlistetaan ensimmäistä Adventtisunnuntaita!

...en kyllä ymmärrä miksi te ihmiset yhdistätte robotit jouluun, kun teette tällaisia joulukoristeitakin, mutta kaipa siinä on jonkinlainen yhteys...

Dreams of a Distant World with Holly~

Just some pics of Holly as I'm trying to come in terms with her character and learn how to photograph her... MSD-sized dolls are easy take with because of their size, and they are easy to pose too, but once you've been accustomed to photograph a larger doll, it's not so easy to photograph an MSD. Or not for me at least.

I changed Holly's eyes back into the pupil-less paleblue glass eyes and I think I like the way she looks in them the best~ <3 Especially with that bluish-black wig.

Joitain Holly-kuvia, koska harjoittelen tulemaan toimeen hänen hahmonsa kanssa sekä valokuvaamaan Hollyä... MSD-kokoiset nuket ovat helppoja ottaa mukaan sekä taivuttaa erilaisiin posetuksiin, mutta kun on kerran oppinut kuvaamaan isompaa nukkea, ei olekaan enää niin helppoa valokuvata MSDtä. Tai ei ainakaan minulle ole.

Vaihdoin Hollyn silmät takaisin pupillittomiin vaaleansinisiin ja luulenpa että ne sopivat hänelle sittenkin parhaiten~ <3 Etenkin tuon sinimustan peruukin kanssa.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about the world in which the story of my dolls (or the characters my dolls represent) takes place. It's becoming more and more clear to me what the world will be like and how my characters fit into it and what their roles are in the story itself.
This world is a parallel world to our own, it's almost like ours, but it has steampunk-ish elements (hence the goggles, haha... no, I just like this kind of aesthetics really. ;-) as well as cyber-punk added in the mix too. It's far more advanced than our world in some points, but in some points it resembles our world very closely. Artificial intelligence is highly developed, sometimes it's almost impossible to tell a "real" person from a robot. Old-fashioned models of robots co-exist with more sophisticated ones, but they are often over-looked which creates a bit of a schism among robots and people alike.

I've been certain right from the beginning that one of the key elements in the story will be automata, and one of the new characters I've invented for this story has put some pieces in their right places in my mind and the story has started to form a new in my mind. It's very exciting how a small little detail can get the gears turning and the imagination to flow freely in the human brain~

Thanks to this I've found new depth to Holly's character too, she's no longer just a cute sidekick for Bram in my head anymore. :3
You'll hear about - or read about - this story more when the time is right. ^__^

Lähiaikoina olen pohdiskellut paljon sitä maailma, jossa nukkieni tarina (tai niiden hahmojen tarina, joita nukkeni edustavat) tapahtuu. Minulle alkaa yhä enemmän selkiytyä se, millainen maailma se on ja miten nämä hahmoni toimivat siinä, mikä heidän roolinsa itse tarinassa on.
Maailma on tavallaan rinnakkaismaailma omamme kanssa, tosin siinä on steampunk- ja cyberpunk-henkisiä viboja. Se on joissakin asioissa paljon omaamme kehittyneempi maailma, mutta joissakin taas vastaa meidän maailmaamme.
Keinoäly on varsin kehittynyttä ja toisinaan on melkein mahdotonta erottaa "oikeaa" ihmistä robotista. Vanhanaikaiset robottimallit tosin edelleen ovat "käytössä" ja olemassa maailmassa, mutta niihin suhtaudutaan usein ylenkatseellisesti mikä aiheuttaa joskus skismaa niin ihmisten kuin robottienkin parissa.

Alusta lähtien minulle on ollut selvää, että yksi pääteemoista tarinassa ovat robotit. Eräs uusi hahmoni, jonka olen kehittänyt tarinaa varten on onnistunut laittamaan palasia oikeille paikoilleen mielessäni ja tarina on alkanut muotoutua aivan uusille urille. On tosi mielenkiintoista miten jokin pieni yksityiskohta saattaa laittaa ihmisaivot raksuttamaan ja mielikuvituksen liikkeelle~

Tämän johdosta olen löytänyt myös Hollyn hahmolle uusia ulottuvuuksia, eikä hän ole enää tarinassa pelkkä Bramin söpö sidekick-hahmo. :3

Holly on ihan yhtä kiinnostunut niin maailman mekaanisista kuin elollisistakin ihmeistä~ <3

Harlequins are both happy and tragic characters and I love that bitter-sweet melancholy. As a child I hated harlequins and clowns because back then I couldn't deal with the controversity that is characteristic to them.
I think a similar thing can be found in robots too. Or at least I always associate robots with a feeling of utter sadness of something missing. There's something very human in robots, yet they are unable to ever become truly human. This theme intriques me to no end~

Harlekiinit ovat sekä iloisia että surullisia hahmoja, ja tykkään siitä suloisen katkerasta melankoliasta~ Lapsena tosin inhosin harlekiineja ja pellejä, koska silloin en pystynyt käsittelemään niille ominaista vastakohtaisuutta.
Jotain samankaltaista voi löytää roboteissakin - tai ainakin minä aina liitän robotteihin surullisuuden tunteen jostakin, joka puuttuu. Roboteissa voi olla jotakin todella inhimillistä, mutta silti ne eivät kykene koskaan olemaan ihmisiä. Tämä aihe vaan jaksaa kiehtoa minua vuodesta toiseen~
